I have been playing around with cabled skull motifs ever since I saw a ready-to-wear skull sweater by Alexander McQueen. My husband wanted it so badly and the price tag was so ridiculous that I decided to make him one as a birthday gift. Though other knitters have charted this out, I decided to challenge myself to make this entire pullover just by looking at several photographs. Wow, that was an interesting experiment! I'm still convinced there are things done in the sweater that seem impossible by hand, but I did ok. :D

When KnitCrate asked me to design a pattern for Halloween, I wondered if I could take the challenge further and make a mini version of the cabled skull. Obviously, it's not as refined, but I think it worked out!

To make the motif stand out, I framed the front of the hat in reverse stockinette. However, the rest of the hat is in simple stockinette.
